Do you have a niche product? In house finance company with local investors no banks ran by son Jake
How did you get involved in the Foodservice Industry? Family

Describe the best foodservice job that you have done? Have done large design build projects like Jacks Urban Meeting Place in Boise by Jack Simplot’s estate http://jumpboise.org/.
However the most rewarding are those that we design with owner operator which we try to highlight on our face book page. I appreciate the risk operators take to go into business for themselves and being a part in their success is the most rewarding projects. Many are a lot more successful than I am and started with nothing. In the early ninety’s I loaned a Hispanic family 10k which I had to borrow to start a small restaurant. There were four cousins. They all split up and I think we are up to about 30 places now among them that we were a part of. This is the website for one of the cousins that own a couple of locations http://garibaldistwinfalls.com/.
They were second generation and had a great desire to succeed. I don’t believe I have ever lost money on the second generation. They now have places in Nevada, Oregon and California along with others in Idaho under different names. Only in America!

Describe the best job you have done this month? David Meek who is newer to the industry that we brought on because of his CAD skills designed his first job over 300k called Chow that has a unique twist that is about half completed. Pretty proud of him. Good to see young people get into the industry and do so well!

What’s the greatest advice you have been given about this industry? Talk less and listen more. Never act like you are in a hurry. Good advice for any sales job

If you weren’t in foodservice, what other industries do you have an interest in? Finance- Stockbroker, banking, financial advisor – I guess why I started a finance company. I always taught my kids what I believe the golden rule is when it comes to your finances. There are two kinds of people – people who pay interest and people who receives interest – you want to be one that receives interest. I was concerned about all the easy credit you could get and what debt does to families. We only finance commercial equipment that makes the owner a return hopefully a lot more than the finance charges.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Finishing a Ironman race.

What’s your favorite activity to do locally? Golf, fishing, triathlon training, family/ all pretty equal I tend to do different things at different times of the year.

What is your favorite activity outside of the office? Happy hour

Where is your favorite place to travel? Cruising the Mediterranean- love the history/ My wife worked for a travel agency when I was going to school. She is a great traveler and fantastic to travel with! She is so good that sometimes I am not even sure exactly what we are doing until headed to the airport and ask. Needless to say she isn’t impressed when I do.

Name one item on your bucket list: Biking tour in Europe. Possibly follow one of the Tour de France routes.
